Star Wars™: KOTOR App Reviews

We need Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords on the App Store!

I’ve played this game so much, and I love it. Knights of the Old Republic is one of my favorite Star Wars games of all time. In fact, why is the first one on Mac, but its sequel isn’t?! Come on, Apple! Port Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords to Mac already!

Outstanding Star Wars RPG

I’ve played every version of SW: KotOR in existence (XBox, several PC editions, PowerPC Mac, Intel Mac, iPad), this edition is one of the best. It runs beautifully on my non-retina 2012 MacBook Pro and stutters only in outdoor areas at a 1600 * 1200 px. resolution. Frame buffer effects are buggy on Intel HD Graphics, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. Soft shadows don’t seem to be supported on that graphics chip either: enabling soft shadows means shadows don’t show up at all for me. The game still doesn’t support widescreen resolutions, but that’s unsurprising since the resolutions were hardcoded, including the positions of various user interface elements. However, IMHO the game looks great at all resolutions, which is unsurprising when you realize it was made to look amazing on old CRT TVs. As far as the gameplay experience is concerned, SW: KotOR is still my all-time favorite video game, and with good reason. It’s still the archetypical RPG in many ways: you get to explore several environments with a party of adventurers, collect items, improve your characters’ outfits, converse with several dozens of interesting people and be the hero or villain of the story. The voice acting and soundtrack are incredibly well-made and fit the game’s ambiance like a glove, the story is compelling and features a great plot twist, and by the end of the game you feel as though the story has progressed the way it did because of how YOU played the game. Subsequent games from the developer have expanded on the game mechanics in SW: KotOR, but this game has been truly timeless and is still a blast to play.

Love KTOR

I love KTOR i played this game when it first came out on the original Xbox. Ive never gone to the dark side of the force :( I would love if they’d put KOTR 2 on here it was even better then this one!!

Wont even download

So I rated this 1 star because it wont even download on my computer. It started downloading (11/11/14), but then i accidently closed my while downloading. So that is my fault, but the game should of started downloading again when i opened my mac back up. But nope. Today (11/14/14) its still in my purchases and as many times i click on it, it wont download. So thats why this is a 1 star for me because i cant play the game. (I’m on a MacBook Pro 15” with OS X Yosemite)

BEST STAR WARS ever

I LOVE THIS GAME! The story is fantastic and it is my favorite STAR WARS storyline ever! It seems to work fine for me, I did have a couple of crashes but they were easily fixed with the game’s settings! Srry to say but I love this storyline better than the original cause it throws you for the biggest loop ever! The Old Republic is my fav star wars era! GO KOTOR! Now if the Mac app store could just put KOTOR II in it’s list I would be darn happy!

Awesome Game

I dont game much but Ive always loved this one. Glad its an app now because Ive used my xbox disc so much it wont work right anymore. Hoping theyll add KOTOR II soon because I cant find the xbox disc for it and Id love to play it again.

Amazing Port, Highly Recommended to all Star Wars Fans!

Can’t say enough good things about this game. I loved it way back when I played it in 2003. It was a pleasant surprise to find that this game runs smoothly on my 2011 MBP 13 inch. I haven’t had any problems whatsoever.

Dont

Can’t use keyboard during game. I’ve installed and reinstalled twice and still nothing. Great game ruined by the port.

cant find my way out...

I lov this game, but im stuck in the under world, i found the rancor and got the repelant but then i died, and the repelants gone and i cant find it… also th egame randomly quits but otherwise its a great game

Unplayable on my monitors

I run a 50" TV, and two 24" monitors on my Mac Pro. The game refuses to run on any of them with any sort of playability (half on one screen, disappearing in the middle, mouse doesnt do anything, yet changes color on clicks), etc ... Apples ridiculous no-refunds policy screws the consumer again.

Just bad

The graphics are straight up horrible, and the controls are ridiculous. I’m ready for a new, excellent Star Wars game. And I’m ready to put games like this in the museum where they belong.

Need help

on the game i can’t move with the my key broad only with the mouse

Having some problems

It is kind of boring starting off. Haven’t gotten to anything fun. I am also having some problems with the controls of the game. I have to keep switching some setting in order to do certain movements. Kind of annoying.

Fantastic! Entertaining and Well-Made

This is a stellar game, with great graphics, gripping story line, nice character abilities and upgrades, challenging, with the ability to play light side or dark, plenty of online help and guides, and something I will play multiple times with different approaches. Great on iPad, and iPhone. There is a version in the iTunes App Store too, but cant sync gameplay between devices.

Needs more armor

Ithink the game need more jedi armor like in Swtor and a store which you could use real money to by things

Keyboard not working

Though I have rated this game 5 stars, it surely deserves it!!! This is the greatest star wars game of all time, its changed the world, and the world of star wars, this game and knights of the old republic 2 are legendary, the only problem though, is that when i started a new game sometime after feburary the keyboard stopped working on the game after i deleted all saved games to make room for new games, I tried uninstalling and re-installing but it wouldn’t work still, so watch yourselves as Aspyr might not be updating the game anymore on the mac.

Needs Improvement

Good game, but it has a few issues. The thing that bothers me the most, is that it’s hard to figure out where you’re going.

Won’t open on my new Mac Mini 8G, 2014, Iris Graphics.. says the file is corrupt after installation

Won’t open on my new Mac Mini 8G, 2014, Iris Graphics.. says the file is corrupt after installation but it isn’t. It has some issue and won’t load. All the suggestion don’t quite relate, are frankly very old and its a REAL SHAME that bugs like this ruin the mac gaming experience. :-( I WANT A REFUND

Excellent Porting to Mac

This game has been a long time favorite of mine when I had a PC. So I was definitely interested when I heard I could get it on Mac. I’m playing it on a 13” Late 2013 rMBP 2.6ghz with 8gb RAM and a 512 gb SSD. I’m playing on the integrated IRIS graphics. It works very well. You can use standard mods (though it took some internet searching to find out how). However TSL launchers appear to require third party software and I have not tested them. Temperature wise, the game makes the Mac run at 74-82℃. Battery wise, it runs down quick (I went from 90% to 50% in a little less than an hour) and it is best to play plugged in. I use a laptop pad fan when plugged in to try to keep it cool (no idea if it works or if it’s a placebo). It only crashed once—and that was because of a Mod added to the program. It was not the fault of the program at all. I have never run into the spinning beach ball when playing. Contrary to what some reviews have said, the movement keys do work. Just remember that the default keys are WASD, not the arrow keys. If you want arrow keys, you’ll need to change that in the options. Just remember that the arrow keys on a 13” are very close to the Return key, and it’s easy to accidentally hit the return key instead of the Up Arrow key, and you won’t move. Considering the game is about 12 years old and was getting buggy on a PC, it was a pleasant surprise to see it work flawlessly on Mac. Now, if only Aspyr would do KotOR II...

KOTOR II now please! (And reboot KOTOR III while you’re at it)

Game is outstanding. It starts out slow when you don’t have access to a lightsaber but once you do it’s great. Took me 26 hours to beat, though I tried to be thorough with the quests so I’m sure you could do it faster. Also, be prepared for a decent amount of slow travel… Tatooine’s Dune Sea is a vast area of virtually nothing but sand, which is a little boring. I know this is useless now but it would have been cool to still be able to play around after you beat it - instead, once you kill Malak, they take you through some cut scenes and then return you to the main menu. You can’t continue questing or leveling up after that. Also, truly would have enjoyed further character customization. Regardless, worth every penny, definitely a good way to procrastinate around finals for me :) No noticeable bugs playing on a late 2011 MBP i7 16GB RAM. Now if only we could get KOTOR II back… it’s been a very long time since I played that. And for the love of God, please reboot KOTOR 3, I know it was cancelled in its production, but with SW Episodes 7, 8, and 9 on the way, there’s going to be a MASSIVE market. Battlefront is already taking advantage of this, but I’d rather play an RPG as a customizable character with a versatile storyline manipulated by decisions you make along the way, not some guided storyline that the Battlefront games usually bring to the table. Overall awesome game though, just wish there were more like it!
